Hello Everyone, its Trish stopping by today with watercolor background card for you! I've recently been taking the Online Card Classes titled Watercolor for Card Makers. The class has been really cool in teaching watercolor techniques with some of the products you may already have in your stash.
So today I'm using one of my all time Favorite products to watercolor with, Tim Holtz Distress Inks! The colors picked for this cards background (from top to bottom) are Evergreen Bough, Peacock Feathers, and Salty Oceans.
I'm using this "My Star" placemat from the Jillibean Mini Placemat Star Light Pack. Instead of keeping it just plain white, I decided to add some Tim Holtz Seedless Preserves Ink. Just place some ink onto an acrylic block, add a little water, and I like to use a Waterbrush to brush it onto the placemat.

To achieve the look of the background, you want to use an acrylic block and put some distress ink on it. I only covered about have of the block with ink and then you want to spritz it with some water. Then you smush it onto your watercolor paper and let it sit for about a minute and lift up your block. You can then tilt your paper to have the ink be intense in some areas.
I then move onto the next color using the same technique and overlap my block onto the previous color a little bit so that the colors blend well. And then repeat for the 3rd and final color.

To finish off the placemat and give some separation to the colored and white area, I tied some Stone Bakers Twine. Last but not least, some Wink of Stella was applied to my background where the stars are cut out (you can see it better by clicking on the photo to enlarge it).
That complete my card! Hope you enjoyed this technique to create a watercolor background! A suggestion in class was to use different shape blocks. My next attempt will be withe a round acrylic block like the one from Lawn Fawn to make a blob/polka dotted background!
Be sure to head on over to the Butterfly Reflections, Ink Store and pick up these products to create your own watercolor background card!
See you back here next time :)
Love the colors and the stars!!
