Pretty as a Peacock!

Hi everyone, Jenny here, back with another glittery card (I can't help it, I've become a glitter addict).  This time I wanted to show some alternative ways to use more of your glittery supplies, to expand the options available to you.  

First off I created my card panel by using a stencil (here I used the Hero Arts Peacock Feather Stencil) and Distress Clear Rock Candy Stickles to create a subtle shimmer on the background.  After I discovered my love of Nuvo Glimmer Paste (which Butterfly Reflections Ink carries) I wanted to see if I could expand the color selection available to me by trying to use Stickles in the same way as Stickles comes in so many more colors.  

A few notes on using Stickles in lieu of embossing paste:

1) It's not as gooey - so you end up using more than you would use with the paste.  Given the containers are small you would go through your stash pretty quickly.  However the effect it gives is very pretty and a great look for smaller backgrounds or layering effects.  Application with a palette knife is the same as for embossing paste. 

2) It's slightly wetter than embossing paste, so be sure to use a sturdier cardstock (100lb +) to avoid buckling.  If you do get any buckling, adhere the panel with strong double sided tape directly to a card panel which will flatten it out. 

3) Dry it out overnight. 

While my panel dried, I created my own glitter paper.  The new WOW! Sparkles glitter is GORGEOUS.  There are some lovely chunky holographic type bits in it.  To create your own paper, adhere some strong double sided tape / sheets to some cardstock  on one side.  Remove the release paper and sprinkle glitter all over it.  Then rub it in with your finger all over.  and tap off the excess.  Then go back over it again with a bone folder.  You should then find then little to no glitter comes off afterwards.  

You can then die cut your new paper as normal, but you can create any color that the glitter is available in! I used WOW! Clarabelle  from which I diecut the Hero Arts Gothic Vines Fancy Die.  This frame was released in the recent Fall release by Hero Arts and it actually has a pumpkin at the bottom, but I have hidden it with the peacock image which makes the frame much more versatile for all year round use!  I adhered the frame directly to the panel (using spray adhesive). 

To create the peacock, I stamped the image from the Newton's Nook Beautiful Plumage set in Versamark Ink on some watercolor paper. I then heat embossed it with Silver embossing powder, and colored it in with my watercolors (I used Peerless). 

For added sparkle, I used my Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pens on the body and plumage. There are corresponding dies to cut out the image - I highly recommend these, unfortunately I didn't have them and I used my Scan N Cut to cut the image out, which in a couple of cases it struggled with! 

I popped the image up on foam squares.  For the sentiment I used another peacock stamp set by Hero Arts which I heat embossed in the same silver embossing powder onto a scrap of black cardstock and popped it up on foam tape.   As a finishing touch, I scattered some matte sequins.

So that's my card for this week. Lots of techniques and ways to use your glitters and stickles in new and alternative ways  - especially fun for you #fullsetsyndrome 'collectors' out there :) ... (me!)
