Hi guys!
Erica here! It’s Monday which means it’s my turn back on the BRI blog.
Recently, I’ve been totally obsessed with alcohol inks and I’ve made so many background pieces it’s starting to get a bit ridiculous. I’ve challenged myself to make cards with them all before I’m allowed to make any more. In a recent blog post on my own blog, I made seven cards and told myself I could play with the inks again buuuuuuut then I realised I had another EIGHT backgrounds laying around...! I had to put my foot down with myself and set another goal of using more before I can make a single other piece.
With that in mind, I made three cards for today’s post. I picked out three panels and adhered them to the card bases with double sided tape and then trimmed the excess off with scissors. The pieces I picked out ranged from a dark blue to a light blue, aqua and white mix.
I also had the idea to make the overall design the same for all three cards, just changing up the colour schemes. I like doing this because I like seeing just how you get such different cards from using the same supplies. Plus it makes me feel like I get my money’s worth from my craft stuff, lol!
It’s no secret I have a rather size-able craft stash and it’s only in the last week I rediscovered the gorgeous Say Hello die cut from Concord & 9th. It’s a lovely die! I love the font and the fact it’s got a chunky size as well as a skinny one. Perfect for layering up different kinds of patterned paper, solid card stock, fun glittery card stock or foam sheets of different thicknesses. It has a matching stamp set too, which I don't have.... Yet.
Using my favorite foam sheet in 1.9mm thickness I cut out three Hello’s as well as one in white and one in light blue linen textured card stock, and the third one out of TonicStudio Black Velvet Mirror card stock. Then moving on to the skinny Hello, I cut one out of the same light blue card stock as the big hello. One in silver glitter card stock and the final one out of gold glitter card stock.
With a glue gen I added some glue to the back of the skinny ones and glued them down onto the chunky ones. Which then got adhered to the foam sheet Hello’s.
I also cut out three banners in white card stock using MFT Stitched Sentiment Strips, and I stamped the word ‘Friend’ from Concord & 9th’s stamp set Cuddles & Hugs. I used Memento Tuxedo Black ink for two of them and I heat embossed it in WOW Metallic Gold Rich embossing powder on the third. This one is currently out of stock but a good alternative is Altenew's Antique Gold.
At this point it was a quick job to put the cards together, I just peeled off the back of the double- sided foam sheet Hello’s, placed the banners in the right spot and stuck them down on the cards.
I’m not going to lie, I toyed with the idea of some sequins but even The Man said to leave it when I asked him so I did.
Now, it may seem boring to make the same card over and over but using different colours mean you have a quick card design which can be adapted to the recipient by using their favourite colour . And that’s always a good thing, right? Plus you get so much use out of your supplies! That’s a huge plus in my book.
Right, well, that’s it from me for today but I’ll be back next week! Until then, have a great week and happy crafting from Erica
