Hello my inky fingered friends. Davina here with a fun interactive camping card, using the new Lawn Fawn release along with the June Bri Moodboard colors. This months summery colors are lemonade , aquamarine, ultramarine, and flamingo.
It’s always exciting or me when LawnFawn has a new release. And I’m embarrassed to say I buy most of it and don’t use it all. But, I feel like it is all must have stuff! This summer release is so fun with all of the tropical items and the great camping themed sets. The fun magic picture card that I made today features the new S’more the Merrier stamps and dies, as well as the super fun Magic Picture Changer Die and the Add on ( which gives that great frame to decorate).
I’m not going to sugar coat it. This card took a bit of effort and time. I think that had I planned it out better before I started putting it together, it would have gone much quicker. I typically sketch out my cards before I get stamping, so I have plan for these busier pieces, but I tried to wing it, and I paid for it with wasted time. The only thing I was certain of was the color scheme, and that I wanted the campfire to change in the window.
I started by cutting the magic picture changer dies, and add on cover, from Neenah cardstock. I find it slides better with the smoother Neenah as compared to Bristol or colored cardstock. I temporarily assembled the sliding pieces, and taped them down in my stamping platform. In the closed position I stamped the logs, then carefully pulled the tab open and stamped the logs again with no line ink. Next, I positioned the campfire over the no line ink image. This way the image stays in the same place, and stamped with my black ink.
Now you can take those pieces apart to color. Color the stamped images first, then mask the images with your preferred masking medium. Because I love and always coordinating dies, I easily cut the image from full adhesive post its. It will leave the white border but will match the rest of my images. Then I inked a nice indigo sky on all of my background pieces making sure to have the sliding panel with the fire a little lighter. I also cut a large panel for the card back that I inked so everything matched.
I cut a second panel for a grassy hill that I trimmed with the Add On die. This way, the grass will carry over onto my changing piece. Save the little inside piece for later, I had to dig mine out of the trash. I inked the grass edges with Salvaged Patina for a little excitement. I adhered my grass onto the add on frame, making sure to put glue only on the lower portion, this way I can tuck my rocks and goodies into the long grass.
I stamped and colored all of my images, including a few extra rocks from another set, the cut everything out using the coordinating dies. I tried to create a rock fire pit, but once assembled it didn’t reach my campfire, so I had to create a little dirt colored hill that I attached behind the Add On Frame, but in front of the sliding mechanism. Once I saw that everything lined up, I glued it all down and assembled the rest of my images on top.
It was a fiasco for sure, and of course I forgot the sentiment as usual. Since the magic picture changer is on deep foam tape for easy sliding, I decided to heat embossed my sentiment onto clear vellum that I wrapped around the bottom portion. It ended up looking really nice so that made me extra happy. The last thing I did was mount the whole thing onto some coral colored cardstock for a nice visual frame and to bring a little more of the flamingo color into the scene.
I’m sorry for this crazy attempt at a tutorial. It was overwhelming for a minute, but once I created a plan it came together wonderfully. Had I not done the interactive element, it would have been a simple a quick cute scene.
