Hi guys!
Erica on the blog today with a little Valentine’s Day card for my sweet hubby. Yes, just one card today if you can believe it...!
The funny thing is that we don’t really do anything special for Valentine’s Day here, we are the soppy type that do sweet things for each other all the time rather than wait for that one day of the year to make a grand declaration. However, making lovey-dovey cards is one of my favorite things to do.
I absolutely adore the bear from Neat & Tangled’s Beary Merry stamp set and I’ve used him for today’s card. As I planned on using Copics, I stamped him up in Memento Tuxedo Black on Neenah Classic Crest 110# card stock and grabbed my grey markers. I ended up using the cool greys for the big body parts of the bear and warm greys for the tummy, feet and his little muzzle. I also added some pink for rosy cheeks. On the scarf I drew a hearts and dots pattern in a rich red. There is a very quick progress video on my Instagram feed if you want to see the exact copics I used.
Here is a photo of the bear without him holding his ‘love’ word. You can see the colouring a bit better here.
One of my favorite inventions ever is the diecutting machine and coordinating diecuts for stamps. Such a game-changer in my view. That and the MISTI, which I used to stamp both the bear and the sentiment I used for the card. I love mine and if/when they ever break, I will order replacements PRONTO.
Right, anyway, let’s tuck that crazy-crafty-fan-girl side away and get on with the card. Whilst I was in a diecutting mode, I cut out my bear with the coordinating diecut and I also cut out the word ‘love’ using another Neat & Tangled die called Love Notes as well as the little hearts and other shapes that come with the set. I found a scrap of thick, deep red card stock whilst I was having a sort-out which I used for it all (I’m in the midst of overhauling my craft room at the moment and it’s kind of snowballed from ‘let’s clear some stuff out and move a thing or two around’ to a completely different set up)
This link, Love Notes, is an affiliate link to the Neat & Tangled shop, as Vanessa doesn’t carry this one in the Butterfly Reflections Ink shop. What that means is that I will get a small commission from N&T, at NO extra cost to you, if you buy something using this link. I will only ever use affiliate links in these blog posts for things that can not be found in the BRI shop, my ‘job’ with these posts are to help Vanessa promote her amazing shop and grow as a business as well as enable you to buy lots of crafty things after all! Wait.. what??
If you’d like her to stock this, send her an email and I’m sure she will be happy to oblige. She is very good at enabling after all, lol!
For my card base I simply cut a sheet of the Neenah card stock in half, scored it in the middle and folded it. I kept the base as it was and using the little hearts I cut out earlier, I created a frame around the edges by alternating shapes and glued these down using Glossy Accents. I also decided to add some shine to the ‘love’ diecut so I added a generous heaping of Glossy Accents to that too. A bit too generous as it turned out, I ended up having to remove some of it as it was so thick it ran over the edges of the word shape and almost got stuck to my work mat!
To complete the sentiment on the card, I used yet another Neat & Tangled stamp set, My Favorite Nut. I stamped the ‘I choose you’ in Altenew Ruby Red ink on a banner I had custom cut to size using MFT Essenetial Fishtail Sentiment Strips dienamics. The smallest one was too small and the second smallest was too big so I used that one to cut one that was just the perfect size.
To finish off my card, I used foam tape to add my cute bear and the sentiment strip and then, very carefully, I added the ‘love’ diecut to make it look like the bear is holding it. With that, I’m all done!
Have a great week and early Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
