Good morning everyone, Amy Copeland here with some glittery butterflies using the inlaid die cutting technique. It's actually a really simple card, but it's pumped up with the details. I started with the gorgeous butterflies--I used the awesome Just a Note Butterflies Thinlets Dies from Sizzix and the Neutrals Glitter Paper Pack from Concord & 9th to cut out two butterflies with my Big Shot. I used a Paper Piercer to punch the little cardstock pieces out of the holes and cutouts that the die made, leaving just the outline of the body and the wings--I discarded the little pieces of cardstock that came out, but if you really don't want to waste anything, you could save them for another card.
I then cut my butterflies out of Lawn Fawn Peacock Card Stock and Lawn Fawn Sugarplum Card Stock. I set the colorful butterflies aside and applied Washi Tape all over the back of the glittery die cuts, so the adhesive part of the tape showed through the cutouts and holes. Then came the tricky part--I lined up my colorful butterflies on top of the glittery butterflies and used my Stylus to poke the little pieces out of the cutouts and holes so it dropped down onto the exposed washi tape. You might have to move the little pieces of paper around a little bit with your paper piercer to make sure everything's lined up before you press them down really well with your finger to make sure they are stuck to the tape.
Next, I took a piece of really pale blue cardstock out of my scrap bin (I think it's Sno Cone by MFT Stamps), die cut it with a Stitched Rectangle die, and used the Cubic Background Stencil from Hero Arts and a Distress Retractable Blending Brush to lightly apply Lawn Fawn Mermaid ink all over the blue panel. It's super subtle--you can't really see it in the pictures, but in person it just adds a little bit of interest.
The next step was the sentiment. I used my MISTI to stamp the cute sentiment from Honey Bee Stamps with Lawn Fawn Jet Black ink--the MISTI comes in so handy here, because I had to re-ink the stamp three times and stamp it down to get a great, crisp impression.
Finally, I cut an A2-sized (5 1/2" x 4 1/4") panel with another Stitched Rectangle Die out of some beautiful Patterned Paper from MFT stamps and used Liquid Glue to adhere it to my card base. I used the same liquid glue to adhere my butterflies to the blue panel, then used Foam Tape to pop the blue panel up on the purple paper.
That finished off this clean-and-simple, yet striking card. I hope it inspired you to make your own. :)
