Ink Blending a Glowing Sky - VIDEO - MFT Stamps

Hi Inkers! Ashlea here, and today I'm super excited to share a video tutorial with you featuring this ink blended glowing sky using the My Favorite Things Festive Flamingos set and Catherine Pooler inks. It's such a simple way to add a stunning backdrop to your scene cards. Check out my video here for step by steps!

1. My secret weapon for this blending is the Catherine Pooler Premium White card stock. It's much like Bristol Smooth card stock only formulated specifically to work well with Catherine's ink. This ink/card stock duo is a GAME CHANGER. I promise.

2. Start with Juniper Mist ink on the very outer edge of the 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card front. Be sure to blend a little ways into the card front as you will finish with a black color on the outer corners of this ink blend.

3. Continue blending in with Grape Crush blending right over Juniper Mist. The color on color blend only helps the cohesion of colors. Don't be afraid to mix them!

4. Go over the blend line of Juniper Mist and Grape Crush with the Juniper Mist ink once more. This really smoothes that blend and creates such a ombre effect with no harsh lines.

5. Repeat these very steps with Flirty Fuchsia and finally Pixie Dust as your center "light".

6. Blend Midnight Ink on the very corner and edge of the card front. This really drives home the "night time" feel with light radiating from the center.

I especially love the way these colors work together to create this glow. This My Favorite Things Festive Flamingo is the perfect character to light up this night sky with the Christmas lights strung around his neck. My dad lives in Florida, and I have a feeling he'll be getting this card in the mail within the next few weeks.

For the snow bank, I cut a piece of white card stock with an Xacto knife and cut both the card front and the snow bank with MFT Stitched Rectangle dies. I adhered the flamingo (which I cut with the Festive Flamingo coordinating dies) with foam tape as well as the sentiment strip and added some snow with a white gel pen. The snowflake embellishments are from Catherine Pooler's new sequin mix, Aspen.

Finally, I adhered the entire card front to an A2 sized card base with foam tape. I hope that you've enjoyed learning a bit about how I created this glowing sky scene. Baby Tags featuring the We R Memory Keepers Fuse Tool!

Happy Monday! This is Kim Hamilton and I am so very excited to be sharing my first post with you for Butterfly Reflections Ink! This is making my first day back to work after a two-week break a happy one! I am sharing baby gift tags today, one of my friends is expecting and not sure what she is having so I made one of each! I used my We R Memory Keepers Fuse Tool for the first time and loved it! I cut my own Tim Holtz watercolor paper to the size of tag I wanted (2 3/4 x 4 1/4) and cut the edges with my trimmer. I stamped my sentiments that are by Lawn Fawn Hello Baby with VersaMark ink and used white embossing powder. For the girl tag I used a mix of Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry and Abandoned Coral Distress Inks and for the boy tag I used Peacock Feathers, Cracked Pistachio and Twisted Citron Distress Inks . Hello, hello! Norine here from The Velvet Lemon blog . It's been a week for introductions hasn't it, but let me just say how delighted I am to have been invited to join such a talented group of paper crafters, and to contribute here at Butterfly Reflections Ink! Today I'm sharing with you, some cards I made by working backwards. What do I mean, you wonder? Well, it's a technique I sometimes enjoy doing, where you "smoosh" your water based ink pads on a craft mat, mist the colors with water and then drag your water color paper through it to create a pretty mess of color. For today's cards, I wanted a blend of blues and greens (always a crowd pleaser) and yellows/pinks. You will always be happier with the results when you keep the green/blues from overlapping with the yellow/pinks, because that just produces an unappealing mud color. I used Faber Castell watercolor pencils so I could more easily control where the color would sit and then painted with a water brush .
