Hello and happy Friday everyone! It's Ashley with a card full of sparkly, rainbow goodness! Today I'm going to share two ways that you can make this rainbow cloud glitter background for your cards! It really is the perfect backdrop for this sweet unicorn from Hello Bluebird.
There are actually two ways you can make this background! For both, you are going to need the cloud stencil from MFT and a variety of Distress Oxide inks. I used Worn Lipstick, Spiced Marmalade, Fossilized Amber, Squeezed Lemonade, Cracked Pistachio, Tumbled Glass, Mermaid Lagoon, Wilted Violet, and Shaded Lilac. Whew!
The first way to do this is to stencil the clouds on a plain piece of white cardstock. I started at the top and worked my way down, trying to keep my blending and colors soft. Once you finish, let the ink dry or hit it with a heat tool. Then cover the whole panel with a very thin layer of Tonic Nuvo Glimmer Paste in Moonstone. I used a palette knife to do this, but you can also use a regular popsicle stick!
The second way is to stencil directly onto Lawn Fawn Pixie Dust sparkle cardstock! I was so excited when I realized this worked! The inks actually blend super easily onto this cardstock. I was able to get such a soft, beautiful look! FYI, I learned during my experiments that you can heat emboss on it too!
In the photo above, I have the Lawn Fawn sparkle background on the left and the Nuvo Glimmer Paste panel on the right. As you can see, the colors are softer on the Lawn Fawn piece, but stay more true on the Nuvo one. The Lawn Fawn has a cooler toned shimmer where the Nuvo is very golden. I love them both!
For my card today, I decided to use the Nuvo background. I knew I was going to use vellum, so I wanted the brighter colors that would show through vellum more easily. I cut my background using the largest Lawn Fawn Outside In Stitched Rectangle. To make the clouds, I used a stitched cloud die similar to this to make two cloud pieces. I die cut the cloud pieces with the largest Lawn Fawn Inside Out Stitched Rectangle so they would be the right size on my background.
I heat embossed a sentiment from Hello Bluebird Rainbow Script with Versamark and white embossing powder, making sure to not forget my anti-static pouch since I was embossing on vellum. I stamped the unicorn from Hello Bluebird Unicorn Tales on Bristol smooth cardstock using black hybrid ink and colored with my Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers. I decided the unicorn needed a bit of his own sparkle, so I added a bit of Wink of Stella, then cut him out using the matching Hello Bluebird Unicorn Tales dies.
To finish, I attached everything to a piece of light blue cardstock, similar to Lawn Fawn Moonstone cardstock and added a few iridescent gems from Studio Katia.
