Hi everyone, Ashley here and I'm so happy to be sharing another card with you on the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog!
Today, I played along with the Butterfly Reflections Ink February Mood Board. If you want to find out more about the mood board, check out this post on the BRI blog. I challenged myself to stay within the colour themes of the board (pinks, red and silver) while building a scene that wouldn't normally be built with those colours. I think the final result is pretty cool!
To make the background, I first blended some Distress Oxide Ink in Spun Sugar onto a panel of watercolour paper using the My Favorite Things Cloud Stencil. I then used more ink blending (Distress Oxide Ink in Festive Berries, Barn Door, Worn Lipstick and Iced Spruce) to make the puff of lava and smoke erupting from the volcano. I masked off everything but the lava puff, and splattered it with water, silver watercolour paint and red watercolour paint.
I added some sequins and heart embellishments in silver, as well as some Doodlebug Tiny Hearts Shape Sprinkles, for an extra added detail.
At the bottom of the card, I added a layer of water using Lawn Fawn's Watercolour Wishes patterned paper and their Ocean Waves Border die.
To finish off the card, I stamped the adorable volcano from Lawn Fawn's RAWRSOME stamp set with Lawn Fawn Jet Black ink, and coloured it in with shades of red Copic markers. I die-cut a small oval out of some gray cardstock using a Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Oval die, and painted some dots onto it with a Versamarker pen. Then, I heat embossed the dots with silver embossing powder. I also used silver embossing powder to emboss the sentiment directly onto the card panel. Finally, I die-cut some palm trees using Lawn Fawn's Palm Tree Border die - I die cut the stems from a dark red cardstock, and the leaves from a red glitter cardstock, and glued them together.
I assembled all the pieces onto the card front with a mixture of foam squares and liquid glue, except for the volcano, which I adhered with an action wobble spring! This way, it wobbles when you poke it, like it's about to erupt - so fun! I adhered the entire panel first onto some silver paper to provide a shiny border, then onto a gray card base.
Thanks for stopping by the blog today and feel free to ask any questions in the comment section. To see more card inspiration, stop by either my Instagram account (Ashley Young Paper) or the Butterfly Reflections Ink Instagram account. As always, almost all of the supplies used for this card are available for purchase at the Butterfly Reflections Ink store. I look forward to seeing you back here next week!
