I had planned to use the Lawn Fawn stitched cupcake die for classroom valentines this year, but my kiddos had very specific designs in mind that didn't involve cupcakes! So, I decided to make a SWEET birthday card for my card stash instead.
For this card, I started with watercolor paper cut to 4 x 5.25." I used the Newton's Nook cascading stars stencil with Nuvo glimmer paste in pink opal to add stars to the top half of the background. I let this background dry overnight, just to be safe!
I cut the cupcake pieces from Bristol smooth card stock and used distress oxide inks to add color: milled lavender, wilted violet, vintage photo, picked raspberry and touches of squeezed lemonade and spiced marmalade. I used VersaMark ink and some clear glitter embossing powder to add some sparkle to the icing and candle. I like to see how other crafters do things, so I thought I'd show my set-up: I use some tape runner to temporarily tack the pieces to a piece of scrap paper (I'm showing a "clean" piece of paper here, but I normally use and re-use my scrap pieces!). I use the same set-up for adding embossing powder to small elements.
This mostly die-cut card was a little out of the ordinary for me, but I love how it turned out. Yay for pushing comfort zones (and for sweet treats with zero calories)! Happy Friday, crafty friends!

Assembling the cupcake was so much fun! I mix and matched pieces and added some sequin "sprinkles" (the shop has SO many sequin choices) to the frosting.
Next, I used VersaMark ink again, with white embossing powder, to create the happy birthday sentiment, and began to assemble my card. I used a piece of purple card stock, cut to 4.25 x 5.5" to layer behind my starry piece to tie in the purple color. I wanted to draw more attention to the cupcake, so I used the Lawn Fawn stitched circle die to create a turquoise base for it. I just love the turquoise, pink and purple color combination!
