Hello Crafty friends! Davina here on the blog with a spring filled slimline card, using a new release by Sunny Studios Stamps. I’m also using the March Mood Board for color inspiration, and there is still a few days to link in a project using the current #brimoodboard for your chance to win a $20 gift certificate to the Butterfly Reflections Ink website.
This is my first time using the adorable stamps by Sunny Studios, and I really love how great this Spring Showers set is. It’s very rare that I can create a full slimline card using only one single stamp set. I normally combine several sets to create a scene, and I didn’t even use all of the images!
I stamped all of my images onto solar white Neenah classic crest and colored everything with Copic markers sticking to the colors in the Moodboard; yellow, pink, blue and navy. When using color boards for inspiration always keep in mind that skin tones and neutrals often can be added while still keeping in the margins, as long as the focus is on the chosen colors from the Moodboard.
After die cutting using the Sunny Snippets coordinating dies I used an embossing stylus to add the little white highlights to my images. I created the cardbase by trimming 4 inches off of the long side of 110 lb cardstock. I scored the remaining 7 inches at 3.5 and folded in half making sure to use a bone folder to crease my cardbase very well. Then I used the remaining 4 x 8.5 piece of paper to die cut the scalloped frame for my card. I used a new die I picked up from the website, LDRS Creative Slim Line Scallop Dies, and it cuts a great decorative layer for my slimline cards. I used the outer stitched frame to cut two panels from Bristol Smooth Cardstock. One I inked blue and yellow for the sky, and the other I cut with a wavy grassy boarder using Lawn Fawn Grassy Hillside Borders. I very gently inked the grass with shabby shutters distress oxide. I didn’t want the green to take over since it isn’t in the color board, but grass is grass, and it needed a kiss of color.
I really love liquid glue over tape runner, it lets me have a little wriggle room, and I reach for my Lawn Fawn Glue Tube before any other adhesive, but I use a combination of liquid glues, score tape, foam tape, glue dots and more for each card I create. I glued my grassy hill on top of the sky layer, then used foam tape to attach the scallop frame on top of that. I used my Glue Tube to adhere the clouds and kids, and made sure to let the kite and umbrella extend above and beyond the frame. Once attached, I added some glittery wink of Stella to the butterflies and added a few iridescent sequins to the card.
I stamped the sentiment onto a strip of cardstock that I colored with the same copic marker as the kite and attached to the bottom. Then, I mounted the card front onto my cardbase using Scor Tape. Thank you so much for dropping by,
