Narwhals, Narwhals...

Good morning, Jessica here!  If the title of my post didn't immediately put a catchy little melody into your head, you should head here and watch this first!  Then my card will make a little more sense!

Butterfly Reflections Ink is officially the first U.S. store to carry Create a Smile stamps and Vanessa received her first shipment last week!  I was SO excited to get the newest Underwater Love stamp set in the mail yesterday that I dropped my original card idea for today and went a little narwhal crazy!

Here's my card:

Narwhals, Narwhals
Aren't those narwhals adorable!?!  I stamped them with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, colored them with copic markers, fussy cut them, and added googly eyes.  Then I set them aside to work on the rest of my card.

I started off by blending Chipped Sapphire and Mermaid Lagoon distress ink onto a piece of white cardstock and used a piece of post-it tape to create the line for the horizon.  While that was drying I ripped several pieces of white cardstock to create the icebergs.  After I ripped the edges I used a dauber to sponge Versamark onto the edges.  Then I sprinkled a mix of WOW Sparkling Snow embossing glitter and WOW Silver Bells embossing glitter onto the card and heat-embossed it.

I took one "iceberg" and stamped the sentiment using Jessie's ABCs from Lawn Fawn.  On the inside of the card I stamped the rest of the sentiment.  In the song, the lyrics are "cause they (narwhals) are so awesome" but I thought it'd be fun to make it a more personalized card!  I also ended up with half a narwhal so I added it to the bottom of the card as if a narwhal was swimming away!

Then it was time to assemble the card!

I started off by adhering one iceberg to the distress ink panel and adhering the remaining icebergs to each other with my ATG gun.  Then I used a pencil to lightly mark where I wanted the narwhals to poke up out of the ice.  For a little extra surprise I mounted the front two narwhals to one action wobbler and the back narwhal to another action wobbler.  In order to let the wobblers move freely I had to build up the front icebergs with five layers of foam mounting tape.  This is definitely not a card I would send through the mail in a regular envelope!  After the icebergs were in place I added the fourth narwhal poking out of from the below the icebergs.  Because there was a layer of foam tape at the bottom I had to cut him in half to fit and that's where the tail came from for the inside of the card!

Here's a quick video of the wobblers "in action."

This is definitely not a card for everyone but that silly jingle has been stuck in my head for weeks now (thanks a lot Sprint!) and I think it'll bring a big smile to the recipient!

Don't forget to head over to Butterfly Reflections Ink and check out the rest of the Create a Smile stamps that are now in stock!  I know I'll be making more cards with the Underwater Love set!  Thanks so much for visiting and I'll see you in two weeks!

Baby Tags featuring the We R Memory Keepers Fuse Tool!

Happy Monday! This is Kim Hamilton and I am so very excited to be sharing my first post with you for Butterfly Reflections Ink! This is making my first day back to work after a two-week break a happy one! I am sharing baby gift tags today, one of my friends is expecting and not sure what she is having so I made one of each! I used my  We R Memory Keepers Fuse Tool  for the first time and loved it! I cut my own  Tim Holtz watercolor paper  to the size of tag I wanted (2 3/4 x 4 1/4) and cut the edges with my trimmer.  I stamped my sentiments that are by  Lawn Fawn Hello Baby  with VersaMark ink and used white embossing powder. For the girl tag I used a mix of Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry and Abandoned Coral  Distress Inks  and for the boy tag I used Peacock Feathers, Cracked Pistachio and Twisted Citron  Distress Inks .  I sprayed both tags with some water and dabbed it off. I then stamped my images by My Favorite Things...

Painting backwards....

Hello, hello!  Norine here from The Velvet Lemon blog .  It's been a week for introductions hasn't it, but let me just say how delighted I am to have been invited to join such a talented group of paper crafters, and to contribute here at Butterfly Reflections Ink!   Today I'm sharing with you, some cards I made by working backwards.  What do I mean, you wonder?  Well, it's a technique I sometimes enjoy doing, where you "smoosh" your water based ink pads on a craft mat, mist the colors with water and then drag your water color paper through it to create a pretty mess of color.     For today's cards, I wanted a blend of blues and greens (always a crowd pleaser) and yellows/pinks.  You will always be happier with the results when you keep the green/blues from overlapping with the yellow/pinks, because that just produces an unappealing mud color.   I used a variety of Tim Holtz Distress Inks for this project, but any wate...

Altenew’s 4th Anniversary Blog Hop Day 3 + Giveaway

Hey, hey BRI friends!  We're hopping today to celebrate the 4th Birthday of Altenew , one of our favorite stamping companies!  You should have arrived here from the Altenew blog , and we're glad you're here to share the excitement! There are prizes and inspiration and it's going to be FUN! With you today, is Norine from The Velvet Lemon  creating for Butterfly Reflections Ink  and I have some projects to share today, that I made using some recently released Altenew products .   First up, are these two cards created with the Mega Succulent stamp set .   I stamped the image onto water color paper using the MISTI , then turned on the music and sat and colored.   I used Faber Castell watercolor pencils so I could more easily control where the color would sit and then painted with a water brush .  I stamped the sentiment onto a piece of vellum, heat embossed with clear embossing powder to ensure that the ink wouldn't smudge...
