Critter Birthday Card!

Hi everyone, Ashley here and I'm excited to be back on the Butterfly Reflections, Ink blog to share a card with you!  My husband celebrated his birthday recently, and I wanted to make him a card with some personalization specific to him. So, I used lots of Lawn Fawn supplies to make a card featuring our three pets! I started by watercolouring the background piece using Distress Oxide inks in Chipped Sapphire , Prize Ribbon , Broken China and Tumbled Glass . I smooshed some ink from each pad onto my work surface and sprayed them with water, and then just pressed the cardstock into the wet ink. I dried the panel using my heat tool, and then repeated this a few more times to get layers of colour. Ink smooshing is one of my favorite tried-and-true techniques for getting an easy watercoloured background! Next I did some die-cutting: first, I die-cut a piece of kraft cardstock (I used Neenah Desert Storm) with the Lawn Fawn Fall Leaves Backdrop die . I brushed some Vintage Photo ...

Hope Your Day is Glitch-Free!

Hi everyone, Ashley here and I'm so excited to be back on the Butterfly Reflections, Ink blog to share a card with you! I made this interactive reveal wheel card to send to my sister-in-law and brother-in-law. Since we don't see them in person as much these days, we have been relying on Zoom to stay in touch, which is represented by this scene. They have a Boston Terrier, who I've placed in the room on the card, and on the computer are me, my husband, my cat Luna and my dog Indiana, saying hello through the screen! I started by assembling the background and interactive pieces. The background ("wallpaper") was cut out of a piece of Lawn Fawn Into the Woods Remix patterned paper using the Reveal Wheel die and Reveal Wheel Rectangle Add-On , but any patterned (or inked!) paper would work for this. The ground was cut using the same die from some Lawn Fawn Woodgrain cardstock and inked slightly with Distress Oxide ink in Weathered Wood . The wheel for the Reveal W...

Hope Your Day is Filled with Adventure!

Hi everyone, Ashley here and I am so excited to be back on the Butterfly Reflections, Ink blog this month! Today, I'm sharing a fun, magical card featuring some of Lawn Fawn's newest stamps. This card is also inspired by the colour board for the current Lawn Fawnatics challenge. The colour board is filled with deep purples and blues, as well as bright yellow and orange. It was fun to combine these colours in a way I wouldn't have thought of before! To start, I blended the background using Distress Oxide inks in the following colours, in order from interior to exterior of the circular blend: Squeezed Lemonade Scattered Straw Picked Raspberry Seedless Preserves Wilted Violet Chipped Sapphire I made a simple mask using a piece of scrap paper and a circle die. I blended Squeezed Lemonade into the centre circle. I then covered over that circle with the circle part of the mask, and blended outwards in a circular motion using the above listed colours. I made sure to blend back an...

May All Your Dreams Come True!

Hi everyone, Ashley here and I'm so happy to be back at the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog! Today I'm sharing a slimline card that I created using a whole bunch of Lawn Fawn stamp sets. A bit of backstory: just about one year ago, my husband and I went on a mini-honeymoon to Disney World immediately after our wedding. I am a huge Disney fan, and my husband had never properly been to the parks. It was the most magical vacation and we had the best time ever. We had been hoping to go back this year but, like so many others, our travel plans got shelved due to the pandemic. I've been trying to re-make the magic at home as much as I can to ease the pain of missing out on the trip - I even tried to make some classic Disney World treat recipes at home - and, in this card, I tried to create some of my favorite parts of the Magic Kingdom. I made this a slimline card so that I would have more space to accommodate all the images I wanted to include. I am still (somewhat) pat...

A Very Dandy Day!

Hi everyone, Ashley here and I'm so happy to be back on the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog. Today, I'm sharing what I like to call an "overloaded" card - I built a scene, and then kept adding critters, and critters, and more critters, until the scene was completely overloaded! I probably could have cut out half of the images, and the card would have been just fine. Oh well - at least there's a lot to look at! I started by building the background scene. I used Distress Oxide Inks to blend the sky ( Salty Ocean ), the grass ( Lucky Clover ), the pond ( Mermaid Lagoon and Peacock Feathers ), and the cattails ( Shabby Shutters ). I also used some Lawn Fawn stencils for the sky ( Cloudy Stencil ) and the grass ( Grassy Stencil ). I splattered the panels with white paint and Lawn Fawn Liquid Stardust . I used a bunch of Lawn Fawn dies to cut out the background pieces. I used the Stitched Pond die , and the Cattails Border die . I ink-blended a small pane...

A Rainbow of Bugs!

Hi everyone, Ashley here and I'm so excited to be back on the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog this week! Today, I decided I wanted some colour and decided to go for a rainbow effect, using Lawn Fawn's super cute A Bug Deal stamp set. This card was actually pretty simple to put together! First, I stamped out all of the bugs using Lawn Fawn's Jet Black ink , and coloured them in with Copic markers. I coloured one of each bug in each of 5 rainbow colours (red, orange/yellow, green, teal and purple). I used two shades of each colour for each bug - a light and a dark - to get some shading in the small images. After colouring and cutting out all of the images, I arranged them on a white cardstock panel and carefully adhered them all down using foam squares . I made sure to keep them as evenly and straightly placed as possible - this would have been easier if I had drawn straight lines in pencil, but I just eyeballed it! I stamped out two parts of the se...

Hope Your Day Glows!

Hi everyone, Ashley here and I'm so excited to be back on the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog to share another card with you! Today I reached back for the Lawn Fawn Little Fireflies stamp set, but tried to incorporate a Reveal Wheel mechanism into the card. Here's what I came up with! First, I created the background by blending Distress Oxide ink in Black Soot onto a piece of cardstock, and then splattering it with water and yellow watercolour paint. I then cut it down with the basic Lawn Fawn Reveal Wheel die - that's the piece you can see behind the word "glows". I also cut a piece of black glitter cardstock with the basic Lawn Fawn Reveal Wheel die , and trimmed the top edge down using the Lawn Fawn Puffy Cloud Border die . Finally, I splattered some basic black cardstock with shimmer, and cut those pieces the same way - first, with the basic Reveal Wheel die, and then with the Puffy Cloud Border die. I assembled all the pieces together using glue and...

Roller Coaster Cuteness!

Hi everyone, Ashley here and I'm so excited to be back on the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog to share another card with you! For today's card, I played with the super fun Lawn Fawn Coaster Critters stamp set and coordinating slider die to make an interactive roller coaster slider card! I started by stamping out a bunch of cuties from Lawn Fawn's Coaster Critters stamp set in Lawn Fawn Jet Black ink and coloring them in with a variety of Copic markers. I also used the cloud stamps from Lawn Fawn's Butterfly Kisses stamp set , and the cute bird giving out tickets is from Lawn Fawn's Say What? Pets stamp set . To build the scene, I cut a piece of light blue cardstock down to slightly smaller than a card base and die-cut out the stitched cloud pattern using the Lawn Fawn Stitched Cloud Backdrop: Landscape die . I also cut a piece of green patterned paper from Lawn Fawn's Knock on Wood 6x6 patterned paper pack to the same size, then die-cut it wit...

Caught a Bug? Feel Better Soon!

Hi everyone, Ashley here and I'm so happy to be back on the Butterfly Reflections Ink! Today, I'm sharing a Get Well Soon card featuring stamps and supplies from Lawn Fawn's Spring 2020 Release. To start, I stamped out the adorable images of branches, leaves, dirt piles and bugs from Lawn Fawn's A Bug Deal stamp set. I coloured them in with Copic markers and cut them all out, leaving a small white border around each image. For the background, I used a cloudy stencil to blend on some Distress Oxide ink in Tumbled Glass . I did this on almost the entire card panel, leaving a small space at the bottom for the grass. I splattered the whole sky area with some white paint, as well as Lawn Fawn Liquid Stardust , for a layer of shimmer. At the bottom, I used a grassy stencil to blend on some Distress Oxide ink in Lucky Clover . I love how the one-layer inked background adds so much visual interest without adding too many bulky layers. I arranged all of t...

Trampoline Cuties!

Hi everyone, Ashley here and I'm so happy to be back on the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog! I'm still getting lots of use out of the new Lawn Fawn Spring 2020 release, and today I have another card to share using their Really High Five stamp set. To make this card, I first stamped out the adorable bunny and mouse, as well as the trampoline and little jump lines, from the Lawn Fawn Really High Five stamp set in Lawn Fawn Jet Black ink , and coloured in the images with Copic markers. I cut them out, leaving a small white border. I then put together the slider mechanism. First, I cut the rectangular sunshine piece from Lawn Fawn's Hello Sunshine Remix paper pad . I then cut two slider channels into it using Lawn Fawn's Slide on Over dies. I placed foam on the back of the panel, making sure to leave lots of space for the slider elements to slide around in their channels. After placing a couple dimes in the spots they should be to slide, I then stuck the whole ...

This is a Really BUG Deal!

Hi everyone, Ashley here and I'm so happy to be back on the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog! Today I've got a creepy-crawly-filled card to share using stamps and supplies from Lawn Fawn's Spring 2020 release! I don't love bugs in real life, but how cute are these stamped ones? To start this card, I stamped out all of these adorable images from the new Lawn Fawn A Bug Deal stamp set in Lawn Fawn Jet Black ink . I coloured them all in with Copic markers and cut them out, leaving a small white border. For the background, I experimented making a one-layer inked scene background. I started with the sky, using a cloud stencil and blending on Distress Oxide ink in Tumbled Glass . I then used a grass stencil and blended on Distress Oxide ink in Lucky Clover just below. I faded the green into strips of varying brown shades - Distress Oxide inks in (from top to bottom): Antique Linen , Rusty Hinge , Vintage Photo , Walnut Stain , and a touch of Black Soot . ...
