Hello card with Mama Elephant Stamps!

Hi everyone!! Laurie here and I'm so excited to be a guest on the BRI Blog today!! Quick question..if you have a popped up sentiment on an otherwise one layer card, is it still considered one layer???  I've never made a one layer anything in my life so I hope this card counts! :) I started by stamping the large, gorgeous floral image from the Mama Elephant Botanic Hello Stamp Set  onto kraft cardstock. I used an alcohol ink friendly ink in a fairly light shade. In this case Flannel Grey Memento Ink. I used my Mini Misti  for this because I wanted to heat emboss the image after it was coloured. I've heard both opinions. Embossing powder does not hurt your Copic markers and also, embossing powder can ruin your marker nibs. I played it safe and embossed after. I used shades of pink, purple and green. It's a good idea to test out your shades on scrap kraft because obviously the colours are going to look much different than on white!  I LOVE this look!! ...

Layered Roses....

Sorry guys, that's the lamest of blog titles, but it was the best my poor, tired brain could come up with! Norine from The Velvet Lemon , back with you today with some pretty layered stamping floral cards. I got to use a fun variety of products this week, to create these cards and I'm going to share them all with you here. To start with, I wanted to play with my new Altenew Crisp Dye Inks , to get a feel for the various color combinations.  So I used the floral stamp from the Story of Us floral layering stamp set from Altenew to try the various ink combinations and the flower I used on the gingham card is the Red Cosmos series , while the one on the quilted background card below uses the Tea Party ink set .  The leaves are a mix of Frayed Leaf for the base with a tad of Minty Mint thrown in here and there, and then layered, or actually just restamped with darker shades around the edges using Forest Glade , and Moss . The gingham card uses the Many Than...

Charmed...

Hi, hello!  Norine here, back again with some floral cards to share with you.  I made 5 with one image from the Charmed stamp set by Altenew .   It wasn't my intention to make that many, (it never is) but I do like to stamp several in case one or two go straight south, then I still have some back ups.  But there were no oopsies this time, I kinda liked them all and couldn't eliminate any. The other reason for so many, was to try out a couple of different surfaces with the Prima IOS Water-Soluble Oil Pastels .  All the first cards are stamped on watercolor paper, and the last two are on vellum. These oil pastels are thick, and rich and creamy and a little goes a long way.  Just a few strokes of color inside the flower shapes, once activated with water, was enough to cover the whole flower. The card below was created using the red, orange-yellow and salmon pink pastel crayons.  The "thanks" sentiment is from the Deerest Friends set by ...

Painting backwards....

Hello, hello!  Norine here from The Velvet Lemon blog .  It's been a week for introductions hasn't it, but let me just say how delighted I am to have been invited to join such a talented group of paper crafters, and to contribute here at Butterfly Reflections Ink!   Today I'm sharing with you, some cards I made by working backwards.  What do I mean, you wonder?  Well, it's a technique I sometimes enjoy doing, where you "smoosh" your water based ink pads on a craft mat, mist the colors with water and then drag your water color paper through it to create a pretty mess of color.     For today's cards, I wanted a blend of blues and greens (always a crowd pleaser) and yellows/pinks.  You will always be happier with the results when you keep the green/blues from overlapping with the yellow/pinks, because that just produces an unappealing mud color.   I used a variety of Tim Holtz Distress Inks for this project, but any wate...

A trio of cards and my first post!

Hi, hi, hello!  Erica here with my first blog post as part of the Butterfly Reflection Inks design team! I’m so thrilled to be part of this team and hope to be a great source of inspiration and enabling you a lot along the way. A big thank you to Vanessa for giving me this chance!  I’m going to dive right in with my post as it’s a rather big one. Sorry about that, but when you get excited in the craft room and are on a roll, there is no reason for stopping it. Or at least that’s my motto.  One thing I really like doing, and I will mostly definitely be guilty of this for my BRI blog posts, is using the same stamp set but make very different cards. I think it is so much fun to see just how different a few cards can look just by changing the colour scheme, the medium with which we colour an image with or a few different techniques used to make the actual cards. I personally LOVE heat embossing and use it a lot. Like a lot-a lot. In fact, I have done it on a...

Hope...this makes you smile!

Hi everyone!!  I'm  so happy to be a guest on the BRI blog today!! I used a few different companies for my card today, so let's get started! I started by picking out quite a few Altenew Ink colours.  I chose:   Volcano Lake ,   Mountain Mist ,  Buttercream ,  Frayed Leaf ,  Soft Lilac ,  Rose Quartz ,  Puffy Heart  and a little bit of  Sea Glass .  I use the mini ink cubes so this is an affordable way to have lots of colours!! I stamped the solid image flowers from the  Doodle Flowers 2 Stamp Set  from Jane's Doodles onto a white card panel.  (This stamp set is ON SALE AND IN STOCK while I'm typing this!!)  This set is so pretty and whimsical. To add a bit of detail to the flowers, I used coloured pencils and basically flicked colour from the centre of the petals out.  Super easy but makes a world of difference! I cut a bit off the bottom using one of the dies from the  Scallop Border Di...
