Monster Wishes with Avery Elle

Hi Crafters! Ali here and welcome back to the Butterfly Reflections Ink Blog. Hope your weekend has been amazing so far! I have been working on a fun card for you today using the Avery Elle Peek-a-boo Scary stamps set. I began by creating a black gate-fold card and then cutting a circle with a circle die from the two front panels (I cut half-circle at a time). I then inked up some white card using the English Brick Wall Stencil and cut a slightly larger circle in this piece, trimming the edges and cutting in half to fit two front panels of my black cardbase. I inked an extra piece of white card and cut a circle for the inside of the card. I coloured the images with my Copic Markers and cut them out. I cut extra shapes for the front monsters so they had a 'backing' when you opened the card (if you have the dies , just cut an extra die for each monster from black card). I adhered three monsters to peek out the front of the card and one inside with the monster wi...

We Shine - Spinner

Hello Crafters! So happy to be back with a guest-post for Butterfly Reflections Ink! Well, I feel like this card might take you back to the 80's with this colour scheme and these ever-so-cute Gym Rats from Waffle Flower Crafts ! Love that sentiment - "We Don't Sweat, We Shine"!!  Here's the card in action!  To make this card, I began by Stamping the 3 Gym Rats and then Mirror Stamping them again so I had 3 pairs of little rats. I coloured them with my copic markers, fussy cut and adhered them together making sure I placed a piece of thread between the two layers. I then used distress oxide inks to colour a piece of card and then used the Die-namics Stitched Triple Peek-a-Boo Windows from MFT to cut 3 windows from this panel and the front of the card base at the same time.I splattered water over the inking.   I then adhered the little rats and strings to one window panel and then adhered the window panel to the front of the card ...

Because

Hi Crafty Friends Ali here, its great to be guesting for a day with this lovely set from Concord & 9th - Just Because . For this card I was inspired by a recent video by Jennifer McGuire to pull out my perfect pearls and get some shimmer happening on my card!! Many years ago (19 to be exact) I did buy some 'pearl powders' and now you can get Perfect Pearls in so many beautiful colours! That does illustrate that these powders go a long way and last for ages!! The first thing I did was create my background by stamping the leaf image from the set in versamark ink on some grape coloured card (any dark card will work well) and brushing with my perfect pearls - I used a metallic pearl . The picture below is just after I had covered my images with the powder (after this you wipe it over gently with a microfibre cloth to remove the excess powder from the card where there is no ink) After this, you will need to spray lightly with...

Thank You Fairy Much

Hello crafty friends (and a goodbye for now too!!) Well, it's here - my last blog post for my DT term here at Butterfly Reflections Ink! It's been great fun, thanks so much for the support and I will hopefully see you every now and again for a post here and there!! As mother's day is on it's way (hope you have all left your crafty wish lists in strategic places so the family can see what you want!!! - or they can just get you a voucher from Vanessa at BRI hehe!!) I used this cuter than cute stamp & die set from Avery Elle - Pixie Dust .  I had a fun - concept in mind of how Mums are the "cleaning fairy", "cooking fairy", "washing fairy" etc - just a thank you to the "fairy" in your household! Had to put a little interactive slider element into it too so she could fly!   To make this card, I started by cutting a stitched rectangle and sponging it with Distress Oxide inks - tattered Rose & Worn Lips...

Mother’s Day Watercoloring

Hello Crafty friends! I'm so inspired to try new things by what I see on Insta, Pinterest and Youtube on a daily basis and I'm sure many of you are the same. This week, I was totally inspired by a beautifully soft watercoloured card by Dawn Waleslagle (who is the founder of WPlus9) and I though this look would translate well to some subtle but special cards for Mother's Day which is just around the corner for many of us. Its the perfect opportunity to use the WPlus products Happy Mail and Strictly Sentiments 4!   (bonus is they are both on sale at Butterfly reflections inc! at the time of writing this blog post). Wplus9 stamps have delicate, fine-lined images - perfect for that light whimsical feel. The stamp styles totally complement the softness of watercolouring!  I'll admit....I'm not an avid water-colourer, but have to say this was fun and easier that you think! I used Tim Holts Distress Watercolour paper and guided by Dawn's tech...

Hope

Hello Crafty Friends!    I was joining in the Altenew blog hop this week and was inspired by Laura Jane (mamacooksalot) with her colouring of flower images - I decided to take my polychromos to my Wings of Hope stamp set and do some no-line colouring.  It does help you look at solid stamps in a different way - you could do your own shading for any solid stamp - increasing it's versatility. I have used this set a lot lately - love the sentiments and the images now have taken on a new perspecive!  I began the card by stamping out the flower images and leaves with light coloured ink (I used a light pink and light green altenew ink). I then used my polychromos to colour the flowers - just using my imagination to distinguish the flower petals and leaf shapes. I used colour that will enable me to enter my card in the Aletnew Inspiration Challenge for April. I used a flicking stroke of the pencils and started in the c...

Blue Beauty - Altenew

Hi Crafty Friends! This week I was inspired by a card by Kelly Latevola where she stamped a flower image and using emboss-resist, coloured with distress ink, then removed some of the ink with a waterbrush and paper towel!  She called it "watercolour bleaching". I thought that one of my favorite sets - Altenew Persian Motifs - would be perfect for this and I totally fell in love with this easy but effective technique! To start the card, I stamped the Persian Motif images with versamark ink onto tim Holtz distress Watercolour Cardstock and white embossed.  I then used Distress Oxide inks ( blueprint sketch and broken china) to lay some colour onto a rectangle (cut with stitched rectangles die ). I used a paintbrush to paint inside the flower lines and removed water & ink by dabbing with a paper towel as I went. I then used blue copic pens to create a 'shadow' look around the edge of the flowers.  I splattered the ink with some water droplets. For the ...

Easter Bunny Treat Box

Hi Crafty Friends! Ali here with a cute treat box using those cute bunnies from the Honey Bunny Boo stamp set from Heffy Doodle Stamps and the Lawn Fawn Scalloped Treat Box die as well as the Winter House Add-on die from Lawn Fawn. These little bunnies are a perfect size for the treat box!and it takes no time at all to construct this little beauty! Firstly, I cut 2 treat box dies from some Kraft card and two "roof' panels ( from the Winter House Add-on Die) from green cardstock. I then used a Lawn Fawn paper pad ( Perfectly Plaid Rainbow ) to decorate the sides of the box. The same paper pad was used to cut some lawn pieces using the Lawn Fawn Grassy Hillsides die . Using the Winter House Add-on dies I cut a window from each side and the door from the side of the house in Kraft card and assembled the box as shown. I then stamped our and coloured with copics the bunnies, and eggs from the Honey Bunny Boo set and die cut with the corresponding dies . I ...

Hummingbird Tags

Hi Crafty Friends!  It's Ali joining you again today. I have these bright and colourful tags to share! Sometimes, you don't realise just how much you love a set until you start creating with it! I purchased this Pretty Pink Posh Hummingbird Thanks on a whim (I know I'm not alone here!! haha) and I am soooo glad I did - it is just so magical - if you love colour this set is for you! I also had to use my new distress Oxides - love, love, love!! I had to get the bundle because, well, there was just no doubt that I would want all the colours eventually anyway!!   I used the My Favorite Things Cross-stitch Tag die to make the tags - love this tag shape (and you have the added bonus of the separate cross-stitch centre if you love cross-stitch!). I cut 3 x tags and toppers with the die and made 3 tags. I first stamped (in My Favorite things Extreme Black ink ) a flower from the Altenew set Adore You on each tag and masked them off. I stamped the 3 Hummingbirds...

Floral Elegance Box-card

Hi Crafty Friends! Ali here once again, with an elegant box-card.  I have to say that the Lawn Fawn Scalloped Box Card Pop-up Die is the most versatile die I own.  It's such an easy way to get a lot of "wow" with your cardmaking and can be used to create loads of different 'styles' of cards.  You can make it as simple or as complex as you like and it always impresses!! What I love about them is that they are not just for kids cards and that adults love them as well! This time, I combined it with the Just Because stamp and die sets from Concord & 9th to show you that a box card can be elegant and 'pretty' too. The first thing I did was cut two of the Lawn Fawn dies from white card and assembled them to make the box-card - it really is simple and not difficult to do at all!  I trimmed the scalloped section from the flaps as - well, to be honest, I'm not a huge "scallops" fan  (but it's so easy to just trim them off if you ...
