So long, farewell, auf wiedersehn, goodbye....

Hello, friends and happy Monday! Emily here for my final post as a regular design team member. I am so saddened that this Design Team's term has come to an end, but so excited to see what the talented ladies of the new Design Team come up with! Going to be such a treat! 

I am so grateful to Vanessa for giving me my first experience on a Design Team. She's been such a wonderful person to work with, and I'm so very thankful for the opportunity. To show my gratitude, I wanted to send her a virtual thank you note. It combines my favorite things: coloring, flowers, and polka dots. Let's get started, shall we?

I started by heat embossing several of the flowers from Winnie and Walter's Anna's Flora onto vellum. I colored the flowers and leaves with Copic markers on the opposite side of the vellum. I used two, sometimes three shades in the same color family to add shading. It took a little experimenting to determine how to get more natural shading, since you kind of have to start backwards when coloring on vellum. It's not the most forgiving medium... My method was to color the  entirety of the flower with the lightest shade of Copic, then add in the darkest shade for the shadows towards the center of the petals, then using the middle shade to do a little blending to make the difference between the colors a little more subtle. After coloring, I fussy cut all of the flowers and set them aside.

 For the sentiment, I cut a square slightly smaller than my 5x5 notecard, die cut a circle, and used it as a guide to place my sentiment.  My next step was to stamp my greeting (from Wplus9's Hand Lettered Thanks) on the card base, and then do some ink blending to highlight the sentiment. I used my ink blending tool and one of the newer Distress colors (Lucky Clover) to blend a halo around the edge of the sentiment. 

In order to add some interest to the square panel, I used a black pen to add some random dots all over the white card stock panel. I then popped it up on the card base and arranged my vellum flowers in clusters in the corners. The final touch was to add some Deep Fuchsia sequins to add a bit of sparkle.

Have you tried Copic coloring on vellum? It's not a technique that I use very often, but I'm always pleased with the results! It lends such an ethereal air to the overall feel of the card, I think.
