Hello, it's Sarah Jay again, back for my last post as a Guest Designer. When I saw MFT's new Cool Cat stamp set in the BRI shop, I knew it had to come home with me. I'm not embarrassed to tell you that I'm smitten with the kittens in Neko Atsume, a sweet mobile app that lets you collect cute virtual cats without becoming an actual cat lady, and some of these stamp images remind me of those cuties.
For this card, I used one of my favorite techniques: paper piecing. When I cut a 6x6 sheet of patterned paper into a card front, there are always a few small pieces of patterned paper left. And I hoard them all. Because they're perfect for this technique. I covered my card base with a piece of Lawn Fawn's Perfectly Plaid paper and stamped part of the image on the scraps. I stamped the image a few more times, once on my main panel, and on extra white card stock.
The cats, basket, and even the basket liner were colored with Copic markers, cut out in separate pieces, and dotted with Black Glaze Gelly Roll pen to help the eyes stand out. Before layering my pieces onto the main panel, I blended a little Tumbled Glass Distress Ink behind them using a Mini Ink Blending Tool.
Aren't they adorable? Their little faces even stand away from the basket a bit. To get a little extra dimension without the height of foam tape, I layered one or two small pieces of heavy cardstock behind the cut images.
Thank you for visiting the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog and letting me share my inner cat lady.
