Hey crafty friends, it's Christy, back with my Friday Feature at BRI. This week I needed a special birthday card for a very special lady in my writer's group, and I knew that the MFT Our Story stamp set was going to work perfectly to create the look I was after.
I did a combination of Copic coloring and paper piecing using the absolutely gorgeous Flora 6x6 by Carta Bella. Now, I'll admit, it did take me a while to fussy cut those beautiful patterns for the chair and some of my book covers and layer them over the matching die cuts, but since the Birthday Girl, Alice, was turning 85 years young, it was totally worth the extra effort. I even added her little dog, Gypsy, into the scene.
To create a soft background and ground my images I did some simple masking and sponging of Distress Inks. Then I framed up my focal panel by giving it a nice stitched edge with the Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables and used lots of foam tape to layer my images and give my scene some depth and dimension.
Finally, I adhered another gorgeous print from that Flora 6x6 to a white standard size card base and popped up my focal panel with more foam tape. Since I was hand-delivering this card, I could get away with lots of dimension! I gave it to her on Sunday and she couldn't believe it was handmade. Isn't that just the best feeling?
I have a masculine version of this card up on my blog today, so if you're interested in that, please come check it out. And don't forget to stop by the Butterfly Reflections Ink shop, as LOADS of new products have just been added in the last few days. Have a great Friday, everybody!
I am really impressed with your fussy cutting! When you cut the chair, did you cut a full chair and mount another girl on top. or did you cut around the girl shape?
ReplyDeleteI cut around the girl. You could also cut an addition girl, but it would just add an extra layer. Whichever is easier!
DeleteThanks for the response! I just love to see your cards; your attention to detail is inspiring.
DeleteSuch a gorgeous card!
