It's Saturday! Or as my niece calls it, "Party Day!"
I'm back with another installment of yet another WPlus 9 stamp set. When this stamp set was released, I just shook my head and thought, "How did she do it...AGAIN?!" I think I mentioned this in my last blog post, but I think I own every floral stamp set that Dawn has produced. Her images are some of my favorites to use for no-line watercolor, and so I decided to bring in that technique for this card.
My husband recently went out of town for his friend's wedding and was gone for almost the entire weekend. To keep from going crazy, I decided I'd tackle the Kind Soul stamp set and get out my distress inks! I knew this process would probably take a while, but since it's more a form of therapy than anything else, I didn't mind!
I first stamped the floral image on Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Paper in a light colored ink. I then selected Shaded Lilac, Worn Lipstick, and Old Paper to watercolor the flowers and leaves. I used clean, clear water to paint the petals and then dropped in the distress ink color at the base of the image where the flower's color would be the deepest. I tend to over-work images when I watercolor them, so it's always a struggle to just let the water work in my favor! I also dropped color into dry areas as well, just to deepen the shades and add some variety. I find that using the wet on dry technique helps when painting the centers of the flowers, because that is usually where the flowers are the darkest, and it's a good way to solidify some of the more fine lines.
After my floral images were finished, I used hickory smoke distress ink and painted a light wash around the edges of the flowers to give additional shading. I used a sentiment from the Modern Petunias set and stamped the sentiment on my card panel in my favorite black ink. I then used a stitched rectangle die to cut a stitched edge around the panel before mounting it to my cardstock base. I finished off the card by adding some Nuvo Crystal Drops to give added dimension and textual interest.
The no-line watercolor technique was so intimidating to me at first, but my only advice on that subject would be to just keep at it! I am NO expert in this area, but I can definitely see how my own techniques have grown by just continuing to practice.
