It's Jenny here with a new card and please don't hate me but it is a holiday card! Can you believe it's November nearly? I need to start my stocking up of holiday cards asap :D
This week I'm doing a spot of watercoloring using the fabulous WPLUS9 Christmas Rose Bouquet stamp. I used a small travel watercolor palette and just had a nice couple of hours to paint! I also created a video for this card over on my YouTube channel here:
I started by stamping the image in Versamark Ink onto Hot Press watercolor paper. Hot Press is smoother than the more common Cold Press, making it much nicer to stamp on. However it does tend to take on less water in my experience, so a recommendation for using this type of paper is to use less water than you think you need. This is a really big stamp so I used my MISTI and stamped a couple of times. I then used some Rose Gold embossing powder and heat set the image.
To paint, I taped my paper down to a board and and wet each area with clean clear water before adding the paint in. I did a slight blend of red and pinkish red on the main Poinsettia image, and darker purple for the Hellebores. The leaves were a blend of a sap green and a darker green. I did two or three layers of color, letting it dry in between each layer, gradually building up the color.
When finished, I used my Scan n Cut to cut out the image. There are co-ordinating dies though for those who don't like fussy cutting or don't have a machine!
For the card base, I trimmed down some marbled patterned paper from a beautiful 6x6 Kaisercraft Wildflower pad and adhered to an A2 card base This pad is so awesome by the way - everyone needs it! It has die cuts, lots of resist papers (shiny for a faux embossed resist look) and gorgeous watercolor patterns in it. Definitely a lot of bang for your buck as far as paper pads go!
I created the frame using a Stitched Rectangle Frame die by My Favorite Things cut from 110lb cardstock. BRI carries some similar dies by Lawn Fawn if you want to achieve a similar look. I smushed my Versamark pad all over the frame and covered in the same embossing powder I used to stamp the flowers and heat set. I repeated again to get more of a metal look on the frame. I then popped this up with thin strips of foam tape.
The sentiment is from the Off-beat Holiday Messages by Hero Arts set (brilliant set of hilarious sentiments) which was heat embossed in the same powder again on a scrap of black cardstock.
To bring the card together, I popped the watercolor piece up on foam tape and slightly overlapped the frame. I popped the sentiment up on foam squares too and then scattered some 4mm and 6mm Sparkling Clear sequins by Pretty Pink Posh for a bit of shimmer using Ranger Multi Medium Matte. For the flower centres I added some Nuvo Drops in Buttermilk and Ranger Black Enamel Accents.
It was really nice after a crazy hectic month to just chill and do a spot of watercolouring. I highly recommend it for unwinding or having some 'you' time.
