Hi Everyone!
Jenny here with a non-card post. How about using some of your crafty supplies for creating holiday decorations? Even non-Christmas themed craft supplies no less?
In this week's post I'm building on the technique I showcased in this post here - using Nuvo Drops to create a stained glass look. Today I'm going to show you how to go one step further and create a cool little decoration to hang on your tree or wall or anywhere you like!
To start, you need a die that has plenty of open areas that you can drop your liquid medium into (you can use Nuvo Drops, Liquid Pearls, Glossy Accents, Ranger Enamel Accents - all work well, but are different consistencies). I'm using the Altenew Dodec Star Die which is perfect for this technique.
To start with, die cut the shape from strong cardstock (at least 110lb, any colour you like -only the edges will show), 4 or 5 times, and then twice from a nice cardstock of your choosing (I used glitter and foil cardstock). This will create one decoration. I did this three times to create three different decorations.
Adhere the plain cardstock die-cuts together. I would recommend spray adhesive if you can deal with the smell, and stack them together. Then lay them down on a non-stick craft mat. (A craft mat will enable your decoration to dry but still be lifted up. If you are worried about shifting, you can also use a temporary adhesive spray to stick it to the mat).
Then use your liquid medium to drop in the wells to create a pattern of your choosing. I would recommend adding more than you think you need as it does have a tendency to sink a little. Use a craft pick to pull out the medium into the smaller corners as you need. For my pieces I used: Nuvo Glitter Drops in Silver Moondust, Blue Lagoon, Sherbert Shimmer, and Purple Rain. For the clear decoration, I used Nuvo Jewel Drops in Rosewater, Limoncello, Sea Breeze, and Key Lime. Leave to dry overnight.
When dry, carefully pop off the craft mat (they should just peel off) and adhere the cover cardstock on each side of the decoration. I used glitter cardstock in pink and blue, and foil cardstock in silver. To create a hanger, take some ribbon, use a craft pick to pop a hole through the top of each decoration and tie the ribbon through the hole. And you're done!
These are actually really easy to create, and although you have to leave them to dry overnight, you can make tonnes and tonnes at a time :)
Have fun!!
