Out of This World, two ways! And a giveaway!!

Hello, fellow crafty people! It’s Monday and it is I, Erica, back on the BRI blog today. I’m still brimming with excitement about being on this fab DT, in case that wasn’t clear, lol!
I have two cards for you today, both these cards are made with the same stamp set: Out Of This World from Lawn Fawn. This is quite a traditionally ‘boyish’ stamp set but as girls can be anything they want (except for sperm donors really... ) I also made a girl astronaut card.

Both my backgrounds are made with Gansai Tambi water colours, both the 36-pack and the Starry Colors pack for some gold shimmer splatters. The blue one I spread the water colours in stripes (and splattered lots of white paint on it )to see what it would look like and this one was originally meant for another project but I messed it up when I heat embossed some stars on it in gold. They were meant to go in a heart shape but that is not what it looked like when it was done. However, I couldn’t bring myself to throw it away and luckily for me, it was perfect for this card!

The purple-ish one, I kept it to an oval shape and left plenty of white surrounding it. I also splattered lots of gold on it from the Starry Colors palette. I love, love, love these colours for shimmer!

Personally, between these two backgrounds, I prefer the white/purple one but experimenting is (almost) always a good idea so you can see what you like in real life and also what you can achieve. My first try at a galaxy background turned into a muddy mess. If you haven’t tried one yet, take a few minutes and watch a tutorial. It will save you a lot of annoyance and grey hairs.

Water coloring is one of my favourite things to do, I find it so soothing to swirl colours around and  see what happens. It’s my go-to thing to do when I am in a bad mood or feel low on mojo. Backgrounds are always handy to have on hand for those times when you need a card like yesterday too!

Right-o, onto things card wise: The images are stamped on Neenah Classic Crest 110# Card stock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and then coloured with numerous Copic markers. The images meant for my blue card I kept very vivid and bright. They needed to be in order to not get completely overshadowed by the bold background. Once all coloured in I used the coordinating Lawn cut to cut them all out.

For my girl-boss astronaut images I used violets, lavender, greys and pinks in ranges from light pink to fuchsia. I also added a bit of Glossy Accents to the window on the rocket to give it a more realistic look. For some reason I didn’t do the same on the blue card. Not sure why...

Sentiment wise I have used the ones from the stamp set. ‘Hope your birthday is out of this world’ I stamped on black card stock and heat embossed in white embossing powder

For the blue card I picked ‘Today the world revolves around you’ and I stamped this on a speech bubble diecut I had cut out using MFT Essential Speech Bubble Dienamic. This I placed on the card so it looks like the astronaut is saying it as he is floating around in space, surrounded by planets and his rocket. Everything is of course (duh, foam tape-addict here) added to the card with foam tape in various thickness to add lots of dimension.

The same went for the other card. I did place things differently on this card though, as I didn’t want them to be too samey-samey. This is my way of saying ‘too similar’. I also grabbed some White Enamel Accents which I dabbed all over the card to bring in some white to the black/purple space. While I was on a roll, I also added some Nuvo Jewel Drops in Rosewater. Naturally, I couldn’t stop myself there either, so I added some to one of the planets too using Nuvo Jewel Drops in Pale Periwinkle

Well, that is it from me today. I hope this post has inspired you to look at your stamp sets in a new way and make you think outside the box a little or try something new. If you want to see more of me and what is going on in my craft room, follow me on Instagram here. That's where I post most of my crafty work.
