Hi friends, Norine from The Velvet Lemon here, back again for a 2nd day in a row!
Today I'm sharing a piece of home decor that I made using the Watercolor Bouquet Stencil from Altenew and some stamps from the Forever and Always stamp set, also from Altenew. Oh and HEY! Have you see the gorgeous April Mood Board that was posted back here? It's what I used to inspire the colors for this project!
Ok, where to start. So I laid the big part of the stencil onto the watercolor paper and then used my real brush pens to color in the openings, going section by section and lifting the stencil up between sections to wet the ink with a paint brush and move the color around a little, even dragging it out and away from the shape in some places. For this first step I used the lighter colors of the coral and green.
Then I let that air dry. I mostly prefer air drying with watercolors because it's a nicer, more natural look than zapping it with a heat tool, but when I need to, I do use the heat tool too! Then I went back and laid the detail portion of the stencil overtop of what I had already colored and painted. It's placement doesn't have to be exact; it's a pretty forgiving stencil that way. This time, I used the bolder colors to color over the 1st layer of color and then repeated the water coloring step. I tried not to work the paper too hard, so that it wouldn't pill up and look ragged.
When the 2nd layer was dry, I went back a 3rd time with a fine Copic Liner pen and outlined the detail portion of the stencil. Then I lifted the stencil and added more squiggles around where the stencil outlines were.
The next step was to stamp the various sentiments from the Forever and Always stamp set. Whenever you stamp onto textured watercolor paper it's a good idea to use a stamping tool like the MISTI so that you can repeat your stamping and get a good impression.
The final step was to mix up puddles of the same colors I'd "painted" with and splatter them onto the dried and stamped paper. I may look for a frame for this piece, or I may just leave it on the clipboard like it's shown. (I bought that clipboard at Staples several years ago, spray painted it white with chalk paint, and sanded the edges to give it that vintage, shabby chic look and I display a constantly changing assortment of art projects on it.)
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!
This is WOW.
