Greetings fellow crafters!
Happy Thursday, Ashley D. here! If
you’re anything like me, you’ve got lots of holiday themed stamps, and it seems a shame to banish them to use only a few months out of the year. I love to make the most of my stamps (aka
investment, *wink* *wink*), and take them, what I call “beyond the set.” And I especially love it when I can use Christmas
stamps and dies well beyond the holidays!
Today I created a baby boy card using two holiday favorites; Neat &
Tangled’s Little Baby Jesus stamp and Mama Elephant’s new Oh Joy Halo Script die
cut set.
I first stamped the baby Jesus
onto Copic X-Press It Blending Card using my favorite Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. Then I used the included small star
stamp to create a pattern on the blanket.
No need to mask the edges, since we’ll be cutting him out. I then colored him in with Copic markers
(BG01, C-0, W-0, E000, E00, YR31, YR12, and R00), and added little white accent to
his cheeks with a Gelly Roll Classic Gel Ink 08 pen. This stamp does have a coordinating die set,
but the baby die does not cut close enough to the image to exclude the straw
background completely. Therefore, a chose
to just fussy-cut him out at the border line.
After setting him aside, I moved onto the Oh Joy sentiment. First, I ink-blended with Distress Oxide Ink
Tumbled Glass and Mermaid Lagoon onto a scrap piece of Bristol Smooth Cardstock,
and die cut the sentiment. I also die
cut two additional copies of Oh Joy onto scrap white cardstock and glued all
three together to make the sentiment thicker, with more dimension. I also die cut the halo portion of the die
out of light blue vellum. For the background,
I used the new Mama Elephant Framed Tags - Waverly dies (large and small scallop
rectangles), and Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangles (3.5”x2.25”). I die cut the large scallop rectangle out of
white cardstock, the small scallop rectangle out of patterned paper, and the stitched
rectangle out of Bristol Smooth cardstock.
I ink-blended the middle of stitched rectangle again with Distress Oxide
in Tumbled Glass and Mermaid Lagoon. And
splattered both white rectangles with Kuretake Gansai Tambi Luna Silver watercolor
paint.
To assemble, I glued the small rectangle
onto the patterned paper, then attached both to the larger white scallop rectangle with
foam adhesive, and then onto a standard A2 card base with more foam adhesive. I
stamped the “it’s a boy” sentiment in Tumbled Glass onto white cardstock, and
die cut it using the thinnest Lawn Fawn Everyday Sentiment Banners die cut,
snipping off the ends. Finally, I glued
the Oh Joy sentiment to the halo vellum background and adhered it, the baby,
and sentiment, to the card with more foam adhesive. For a little extra sparkle, I added silver star
sequins, small blue jewels, and a little Zig Wink of Stella Clear glitter on
the blanket stars and Oh Joy sentiment.
Viola! Christmas images OUTSIDE
of Christmas! Happy stamping! Don’t forget to check out the BRI 40% off clearance event going on now, and Creativation updates coming soon! It begins today and we’ll be there!
So cute! Love the idea of using that stamp in a different way!
