Hi guys! Erica here!
Today I have the pleasure of being a guest designer here on the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog!
I have two bright and happy birthday cards using the It's Your Birthday stamp from Studio Katia. Both are heat embossed, the backgrounds are faux water coloured and both are sprinkled with Studio Katia sequins.
To start with I cut out two panels of water colour card stock, and on these I dragged mini Distress Ink cubes in thick lines. With a wet wide paint brush, I blended the colours together to create the faux water colour look. You can get a similar look with any kind of water based mini ink cubes. It doesn't have to be Distress Inks.
These I set aside to dry. They had to be absolutely bone-dry before I could carry on with the next step: Heat embossing. Even with an anti-static tool, I find that the powder gets stuck in places you don't want it in, if the panel isn't dry enough.
The sentiment, Happy Birthday To You, was heat embossed onto the panels with white embossing powder. It's classic and elegant, plus coordinates great with the white card base I was planning on using.
Foam tape is one of the best inventions ever! EVER!! I love that stuff! I cut out pieces from foam sheets, to add to the backs of the background panels. Once I had added these to the card bases, it was time for final touches. I also love sequins. A lot! I may in fact, have a problem.
I hope you have been inspired by these cards and enjoyed this post!
Thanks for stopping by,
lots of love and happy crafting from Erica
