Hello, it’s Davina here on the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog, and today I have a post with the new August Mood/Color Board. Every month Amanda comes up with a whole new color inspiration and it sets the mood for the projects that I will be sharing. This month is rich jewel colors that I’ve paired up with the newer sets from latest Reverse Confetti release.
I used the Let’s Shellebrate stamps and coordinating dies to make this petite slimline card. It came together pretty quickly and I love the way these non traditionally colored critters came together. I started by stamping my images onto Neenah Solar Bright White cardstock, then I began coloring with my chosen Copic marker combinations and cutting out using the matching dies. Next, I prepared my panels by trimming down two pieces of Bristol Smooth paper to 6 x 3.25 inches. Then I used a stitched hill die to trim the top off of one. I didn’t worry about the length at this time, knowing I’d like play with image placement before committing to sizes.
After playing with the placement of my die cut images I decided to cut a couple inches off the bottom of my hillside panel and got to work with my inking. Using my Blender Brushes I very lightly inked some antique linen Distress ink to the top of the hillside, and blended out to white. Then splattered a tiny amount of watery brushed corduroy ink for darker sand like spots. Then across the top 3 inches of my second panel, I blended the very top with dusty concord and right below it I used blueprint sketch. I intentionally left the tiniest strip of white to give the illusion of the ocean reflecting off in
the distance where it touches the sky.
I splattered both panels with clean water before using white opaque ink, then a shimmery perfect pearl. I can’t wait for the glittery ink from the upcoming lawn Fawn release to get into my inky fingers! I stamped my sentiment to the bottom of my hillside before mounting it on foam tape over my back panel. Then using my Lawn Fawn Glue tube, I began attaching my images. I decided to mount my pink crab onto fun foam for some added “oomph” and propped him above the sentiment. I had an iridescent sequin mix from Lucy Abrams that matched the color board so I put a sprinkling down before using Scor Tape to attach my card face onto the card base. I always use a card base of 6.25 x 3.5 for these little slimline cards. I adore the size and the fact that it’s the same size as my phone, so I feel like it’s perfectly sized for my hand haha.
