Happy Friday, all! My baby turns SEVEN tomorrow, so this week I'm sharing the birthday card I made for her.
My daughter loves mermaids, and I pulled from several Lawn Fawn stamp sets to create this card, including:
I've been trying out this "new" slimline card size (8.5" long by 3.5" high) and it's growing on me ... I love that I can fit in so many details and really create a full scene. For the background of this card, I used mermaid lagoon distress oxide ink for the water and vintage photo distress oxide ink for the sand (cut with a Lawn Fawn stitched hillside border die). For both background areas, I flicked both water and extra oxide ink onto the background. I also added glossy accents "bubbles" to the water background and foam tape to the sand for added dimension.
This week, I really focused on my coloring. I used both Copic markers (available in the shop) and colored pencils (with this sharpener to get a super-sharp point!) to shade and add detail to my mermaids and critters. I also added details with a Sakura white gel pen (highlights), Wink of Stella clear brush pen (mermaid tails), and a Sakura black glaze pen (critter eyes).
Phew! Why so much detail for a seven year old's birthday card? Honestly, because she'll appreciate it ... she's seen me working on this card for days, though she hasn't yet seen the finished product. She knows how much time and love went into it and how much I tailored it to what she likes. She knows that the card is special, just like her ... which is one reason why, I think, card making is so important. Happy crafting, friends!
super adorable!
