Stencil all the things!

Hello, again! I recently ordered the Newton's Nook Tumbling Heart Stencil from Butterfly Reflections, Ink. and I am in LOVE, pun intended! I want to stencil ALL THE THINGS.

For my first card this week, I used an oldie-but-goodie set: Lawn Fawn's out of this world stamps and coordinating dies. I colored a rocket and some planets with Copic markers (available in the shop) and added white gel pen details. The rocket window also got a glossy accents coating.

For the background, I blended distress oxide inks in broken china, mermaid lagoon and seedless preserves to create a galaxy effect. I flicked on some Kuretake gold metallic paint to create "stars."

Side note here ... does anyone else love peeling up purple tape? Seeing that crisp white border around my project just makes me so happy! Ok, back to the project ... I used more purple tape to keep my stencil in place and to block off a "jet blast" area behind the rocket. I applied Nuvo glimmer paste in garnet red, removed my stencil, and let the background dry for a bit.

Meanwhile, I cut a banner from Lawn Fawn's black card stock and some gold glitter card stock with the largest of the Lawn Fawn everyday sentiment dies. I used gold embossing powder to emboss a "you are out of this world" sentiment. I really love how this card turned out ... the hearts tumbling from the rocket are so much fun.

For my second card this week, I used the same heart stencil to create "bubbles" in an underwater Valentine scene. I used broken china distress oxide ink for my background and layered mermaid lagoon distress oxide ink over it ... I love the blue-on-blue effect! I used Copic markers (available in the shop) to color images from Lawn Fawn's mermaid for you stamp set and coordinating dies and built an adorable scene.

I had left the bottom of the background piece free of ink, so I also used Copic marks to dot in the "sand," making sure to use darker colors to shadow under the rocks and plants. Finally, I used a little glossy accents to fill in the hearts bubbling from the coral for an extra-fun effect!

One of my biggest card making tips is to create the inside panel on a separate sheet of paper ... especially if kids will be involved in signing the card! I can't count the number of cards that have been saved from disaster by making a separate (a/k/a replaceable!) inside panel piece.

I hope these cards give you some fun Valentine's Day ideas ... I loved using the heart stencil to create unique scenes!

Baby Tags featuring the We R Memory Keepers Fuse Tool!

Happy Monday! This is Kim Hamilton and I am so very excited to be sharing my first post with you for Butterfly Reflections Ink! This is making my first day back to work after a two-week break a happy one! I am sharing baby gift tags today, one of my friends is expecting and not sure what she is having so I made one of each! I used my We R Memory Keepers Fuse Tool for the first time and loved it! I cut my own Tim Holtz watercolor paper to the size of tag I wanted (2 3/4 x 4 1/4) and cut the edges with my trimmer. I stamped my sentiments that are by Lawn Fawn Hello Baby with VersaMark ink and used white embossing powder. For the girl tag I used a mix of Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry and Abandoned Coral Distress Inks and for the boy tag I used Peacock Feathers, Cracked Pistachio and Twisted Citron Distress Inks . I sprayed both tags with some water and dabbed it off. I then stamped my images by My Favorite Things...

Painting backwards....

Hello, hello! Norine here from The Velvet Lemon blog . It's been a week for introductions hasn't it, but let me just say how delighted I am to have been invited to join such a talented group of paper crafters, and to contribute here at Butterfly Reflections Ink! Today I'm sharing with you, some cards I made by working backwards. What do I mean, you wonder? Well, it's a technique I sometimes enjoy doing, where you "smoosh" your water based ink pads on a craft mat, mist the colors with water and then drag your water color paper through it to create a pretty mess of color. For today's cards, I wanted a blend of blues and greens (always a crowd pleaser) and yellows/pinks. You will always be happier with the results when you keep the green/blues from overlapping with the yellow/pinks, because that just produces an unappealing mud color. First up, are these two cards created with the Mega Succulent stamp set . I stamped the image onto water color paper using the MISTI , then turned on the music and sat and colored. I used Faber Castell watercolor pencils so I could more easily control where the color would sit and then painted with a water brush .
