Hi everyone! Ashley here and I'm super excited to be back on the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog with a fun interactive card. This is another card that focuses on a mini stamp set - Lawn Fawn's Little Fireflies.
If you saw my last post, you'll know that I sometimes struggle to make an entire card focused around one mini stamp set - I usually prefer when there are a bunch of different images to use. I made it work on this card by repeating the two firefly images over and over, focusing more at the bottom and less at the top to give a bit of visual interest.
I stamped out the fireflies in Versafine Onyx Black ink, and embossed them with clear embossing powder. I then blended some Distress Oxide ink in Black Soot onto the bottom half of the card, to give a faint ombre effect. After that, I coloured in each firefly with a white pencil crayon for highlight, and an embossing pen for shadow. This is a good way to give a bit of dimension while still keeping the tone-on-tone look.
I also made the sentiment stand out by embossing part of it with white embossing powder, and cutting the letters for the word "GLOWS" with yellow glitter paper using the My Favorite Things Stitched Alphabet die-namics. This also helped add visual interest to the card, even when there were only two different small images being used.
And the coolest part? This card actually glows!! I embossed the "Push Here" sentiment from Lawn Fawn's Push Here stamp set in white embossing powder and glued it onto the front of the card where you need to push to make the light-up mechanism work. I used a Chibitronics circuit behind the front panel to connect a battery to three lights, so when you press on the "Push Here" sentiment, three of the fireflies light up!
How cool is that?! It's hard to show the lights in a photo, so if you want to see a short video clip of me turning the lights on and off, head over to my Instagram profile! If you have any questions about Chibitronics, feel free to ask - I found them intimidating at first, but I definitely encourage you to play with them if you haven't yet. The light-up effect is so special!
Thanks so much for stopping by today. I can't wait to be back with another card next week!
