Lawn Fawn Magic Iris

Good morning, friends!  Amy Copeland here guest designing for the blog today.  This card has been four months in the making--my Copic yellow green markers were getting desperately dry and there had been a Copic refill shortage due to the remanufacture of the refills.  Finally got some refills for my YG03, YG06, and YG09 and was back in business.  This is my first time using the Lawn Fawn Magic Iris die and Magic Iris Add On and it was so fun!  I started out by cutting the add on panel die out of white heavyweight cardstock (Neenah 110 lb) and stamping the leaf from the Lawn Fawn Hey Lady stamp set with Copic Friendly Ink.  I then stamped the leaf onto Masking Magic and fussy cut it out. I then placed the mask onto my first leaf that I stamped, cleaned and moved the stamp, and stamped next to my first stamped leaf, overlapping the first one so it looked like it was behind the first leaf.  I continued doing this until my whole panel was covered with leaves, then used Copic Markers to color in the leaves and the background.  I did the same thing with my "sausage" pieces for the magic iris die, then assembled the Magic Iris according to a video from Lawn Fawn that I found on You Tube.  I used Double Sided tapeGlue Dots, and Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive in the assembly according to the directions.

For the center piece that is exposed when the Magic Iris opens up, I stamped the little bug from Lawn Fawn's A Bug Deal stamp set onto the die cut circle that cuts out with the add on.  I then stamped him onto the Masking Magic as well, fussy cut him out, and placed the mask on top (I didn't bother to mask his antennae or legs)--I then stamped the leaf on top of the mask and removed the mask covering his body.  I Copic colored all of the images and background on the circle, then Die Cut a rectangle using a stitched rectangle die and navy blue cardstock.  I aligned my Magic Iris add on panel without adhesive, opened the iris, and used the Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive liquid glue to adhere the circle onto the navy panel.  I then put a double layer of Foam Tape on the background surrounding the Magic Iris mechanism, removed the release paper, and adhered my add on panel to the navy cardstock panel.

Finally, I stamped, Copic colored, and die cut the magnifying glass from the Hey Lady stamp set--adhering an acetate die cut of the magnifying glass itself without the hole placed behind it.  I adhered it onto the add on panel with the double sided tape linked above.  I then stamped the sentiment from Hey Lady onto white cardstock using Lobster ink from Lawn Fawn and die cut it out using a die from Avery Elle Simple Sentiments to cut it out--I adhered it with the Nuvo Deluxe, then glued a teensy heart die cut underneath the sentiment.  The heart came from Lawn Fawn's Valentine Borders die--I had it in my little scrap dish on my desk.  I coated the heart with Clear Overlay Sparkle Pen from Spectrum Noir and then covered it in Glossy Accents.  That wraps up the card today--hope it inspires you to try the Magic Iris as well, or at least masking and coloring a large panel.  I'm happy with the way it turned out and hope you join us on the blog daily for more inspiring posts from very talented designers.  :)

Baby Tags featuring the We R Memory Keepers Fuse Tool!

Happy Monday! This is Kim Hamilton and I am so very excited to be sharing my first post with you for Butterfly Reflections Ink! This is making my first day back to work after a two-week break a happy one! I am sharing baby gift tags today, one of my friends is expecting and not sure what she is having so I made one of each! I used my  We R Memory Keepers Fuse Tool  for the first time and loved it! I cut my own  Tim Holtz watercolor paper  to the size of tag I wanted (2 3/4 x 4 1/4) and cut the edges with my trimmer.  I stamped my sentiments that are by  Lawn Fawn Hello Baby  with VersaMark ink and used white embossing powder. For the girl tag I used a mix of Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry and Abandoned Coral  Distress Inks  and for the boy tag I used Peacock Feathers, Cracked Pistachio and Twisted Citron  Distress Inks .  I sprayed both tags with some water and dabbed it off. I then stamped my images by My Favorite Things  Snuggle Bunnies  for the girl and Magical Dragons for th

Painting backwards....

Hello, hello!  Norine here from The Velvet Lemon blog .  It's been a week for introductions hasn't it, but let me just say how delighted I am to have been invited to join such a talented group of paper crafters, and to contribute here at Butterfly Reflections Ink!   Today I'm sharing with you, some cards I made by working backwards.  What do I mean, you wonder?  Well, it's a technique I sometimes enjoy doing, where you "smoosh" your water based ink pads on a craft mat, mist the colors with water and then drag your water color paper through it to create a pretty mess of color.     For today's cards, I wanted a blend of blues and greens (always a crowd pleaser) and yellows/pinks.  You will always be happier with the results when you keep the green/blues from overlapping with the yellow/pinks, because that just produces an unappealing mud color.   I used a variety of Tim Holtz Distress Inks for this project, but any water based inks w

Altenew’s 4th Anniversary Blog Hop Day 3 + Giveaway

Hey, hey BRI friends!  We're hopping today to celebrate the 4th Birthday of Altenew , one of our favorite stamping companies!  You should have arrived here from the Altenew blog , and we're glad you're here to share the excitement! There are prizes and inspiration and it's going to be FUN! With you today, is Norine from The Velvet Lemon  creating for Butterfly Reflections Ink  and I have some projects to share today, that I made using some recently released Altenew products .   First up, are these two cards created with the Mega Succulent stamp set .   I stamped the image onto water color paper using the MISTI , then turned on the music and sat and colored.   I used Faber Castell watercolor pencils so I could more easily control where the color would sit and then painted with a water brush .  I stamped the sentiment onto a piece of vellum, heat embossed with clear embossing powder to ensure that the ink wouldn't smudge, then tore the vel
