Happy Friday, Everyone! I am sharing a holiday card today using a background technique that I often forget about - distress oxides on glossy paper. It's a fun and always surprising technique - you never know what you're going to get. I used several Mama Elephant products to create the card, which can be found in the Butterfly Reflections online shop.
I started with an A2 sized piece of Ranger gloss paper and pulled out a bunch of different colors of
distress oxide ink pads. I smooshed a combination of yellow inks, squirted the ink with water, dragged my paper through the ink, and dried it. I then tapped my paper back into the ink, which at this point was in the form of droplets, and dried it again. I smooshed a different combination of colors - this time some greens and blues - and tapped my paper into the ink. I dried it and continued doing this many more times, using different colors of ink, always being sure to dry each layer. Sometimes I used one color ink for a layer, and if I used more than one color, I made sure to pull from the same color family. I usually alternated between warm and cool layers but you don't have to.
Once I felt like I had enough layers, it was time for the magic to happen. At this point, you can't really tell what you have, and there's a slightly chalky looking finish. The trick is to use Ranger
Micro Glaze. Using a mini ink blending tool, I swirled a little bit of glaze all over the paper and then buffed it off with a cloth. And what you're left with is what you see in the pictures. It's always a surprise as to what you're going to get, which I kinda love. The glaze reveals all of the different layers that you applied to the paper - so cool.
Now that I had a background, it was time to make the card. I cut a couple pieces of white card stock using the Winter Forest
cover die and glued them together to give some dimension. I stamped the sentiment from the Fuzzy Hugs
stamp set at the bottom of the panel. I layered all of this onto an A2 white card base. I then stamped the mice from the same Fuzzy Hugs set and colored them with copic markers.
