Hellooo crafty friends! It's another Monday in October and I have another Halloween card for you! Here was my creative thought process with this card: I wanted to create a very traditional orange-and-black Halloween card. I also wanted to make a full panel shaker card. I absolutely love the hot dog dachshund from Paperie Ink's Happy Haunting set. I loooove puns. TA-DA! And this is what I came up with!
First, I stamped and colored the adorable hot dog doggie with Copic markers (dog E13, E15, E18; hot dog costume E30, E31, E34, R24, Y17) and fussy cut the image. For the background, I used the emboss resist technique by stamping my images and heat embossing clear embossing powder. Then I ink blended Distress inks (mustard seed, spiced marmalade, carved pumpkin, ripe persimmon, black soot) and then wiped any excess ink off the images. (You can do the same technique with Distress Oxide inks.)
To create the full panel shaker, I cut a piece of plastic (recycled packaging from a stamp set!) larger than the background. I applied anti-static powder to the panel and plastic. I pre-folded the sides like I was wrapping a present and taped the edges to the back of the panel but left the top side open. Then I added the shaker elements and sealed up the panel.
For the sentiment, I cut out the letters using Finley's ABCs by Lawn Fawn and used my Xyron sticker maker to apply adhesive. (You could also use dot tape runner.) The sentiment banner was stamped using Claire's ABCs by Lawn Fawn and heat embossed with white embossing powder. I used Everyday Sentiment Banners by Lawn Fawn to cut it out.
That's it! This type of shaker card was definitely easier to make than the traditional "well" style of card with layers of cardstock or foam tape. If you haven't made this type of shaker card, I encourage you to try it! Thank you so much for stopping by the BRI blog! Have a crafty day! 💖Jenn
